f there is a lunatic fringe among cars, the Atom is at the lunatic fringe of that fringe. It is one of the very few cars that can make the Caterham Super Seven look like a safe, sedate, practical family car. The Atom is street-legal in most states as a kit car and can be driven (rather quickly) on public roads, but while most sports cars make weak pretenses at being suitable for everyday transportation, the Atom eschews with that pretense and goes right for the jugular.

uummmm...awesome! Where do I sign up for one of these. I'll get to work in 5 minutes in that. I see keeping my stylish hair dew in tact being a problem, but I would be willing to sacrifice.

apparently, you can only really ride in good weather, since the cockpit is open to the air, above and below

I would have to get some face-tightening plastic surgery before opening it up on the open road, lest my jowls flap and obstruct my vision (see the top gear video at the end of that story for a somewhat unsettling visual demonstration)

i like the Atom. don't get me wrong. but some of the information in the article is wrong: for one, it's not a sub-3 second car. even in Supercharged guise. it is insanely manic. i'd prefer a Westfield Megabusa (yes, named after the bike) or even a SEight. the old Caterham R500 was bonkers, too. and all three are (or were in the case of the Caterham, which is no longer sold) significantly cheaper than the Ariel.
