Does anyone else get this error message randomly when trying to play YouTube videos embedded on remote Web sites? The video is very much available if you go to the actual page on YouTube.com

yes I've been getting this with all embedded videos. Once I go to youtube's page though, it will just keep loading and never play.

what's wrong with hosting your own video?

  • todd May 03, 2008

    kim: the bandwidth, obviously.

  • todd May 03, 2008

it's not tenable for most people to host their own videos. they don't have the server software to do streaming stuff and they don't have the bandwidth to make it all work.

reviving this topic: youtube has changed the way they deal with uploaded copies of copywritten videos, but i can't find a reference to the article that described it. can anyone else?

  • todd May 16, 2008

it had something to do with leaving the uploaded video but referring to the official one or something like that.

todd: I think what you are referring to is that they don't removed copyrighted videos, but they don't let you embed them either, and they link to the copyright holders web.

I had this happen and it stopped when I shutdown Google Web Accelerator.

I'm surprised to hear that anyone still uses the Google Web Accelerator. That made a big splash when it first appeared but i haven't heard much about it since.
